Desmond Tate

The work explores a state of separation; the artist argues that historical influences have shaped how art institutions perceive contemporary minority artists, by devaluing their art and maintaining a state of racial separation.

The work exhibited incorporates classical western references, which have little personal significance; the art deliberately alienates the artist from his cultural identity.
